Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is a 4.226 km, 16-corner (10 right / 6 left) motor racing circuit in Misano Adriatico, between Rimini and Cattolica on the Italian Adriatic Riviera — the home of the San Marino and Rimini Riviera motorcycle Grand Prix and one of MotoGP's most popular rounds for its proximity to Tavullia, Valentino Rossi's hometown. Plans for a private autodrome on the site were first proposed in 1969 and the circuit hosted its first event in 1972 on an original 3.488 km layout that ran in an anticlockwise direction. The track was significantly modernised in 1993, and then completely rebuilt in 2006: the direction was reversed to clockwise, the length extended to 4.180 km, the width increased to 14 m, and safety facilities and run-off areas brought up to MotoGP standards. The 2007 San Marino Grand Prix was the first MotoGP race on the new layout. In 2012 the circuit was renamed in memory of Marco Simoncelli, the local Coriano-born MotoGP rider who died at the 2011 Sepang Grand Prix. Famous corners include Curva del Rio (T4), Curvone (T11) — a long high-speed right-hander — Curva del Carro (T13), the Quercia chicane (T14) and the tightening Curva del Tramonto leading onto the start straight. Misano regularly hosts MotoGP, the World Superbike Championship, MotoE and the Italian motorcycle CIV — and is by far the most heavily-used trackday venue on the Italian Adriatic coast.
