About Circuit Zandvoort
Circuit Zandvoort is a 4.259 km, 14-corner motor racing circuit in the North Sea coastal dunes at Zandvoort, around 30 km west of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The first race on the original 4.193 km circuit took place on 7 August 1948, won by Prince Bira of Siam. Renamed the Grote Prijs van Zandvoort in 1949 and the Grote Prijs van Nederland (Dutch Grand Prix) in 1950, Zandvoort hosted the Formula One Dutch Grand Prix continuously from 1958 to 1985 (with the exception of 1972), before financial trouble, residential encroachment and noise restrictions forced the long F1 hiatus. Built largely on the asphalted access roads of a wartime German anti-aircraft installation, the dune-and-sand setting and challenging fast corners made the original Zandvoort one of the most respected circuits on the F1 calendar. The circuit was significantly shortened and rebuilt for the late 1980s, then completely modernised for the return of the Dutch Grand Prix in 2021. Italian designer Jarno Zaffelli added 18-degree banked corners at Turn 3 (Hugenholtzbocht) and the final Turn 14 (Arie Luyendijkbocht) — the latter banking the world's steepest racing surface on a modern F1 circuit — to improve overtaking. Famous corners include the Tarzanbocht (Turn 1, the heavy-braking final corner of the old layout, named after a local who refused to sell his dune-side vegetable garden unless a corner was named after him), Hugenholtz, Hunzerug, Scheivlak, Audi S and the banked Arie Luyendijk final right-hander. Zandvoort hosts the Dutch F1 Grand Prix (2021–2026) and the Dutch round of the DTM, and remains by far the busiest car trackday venue in the Netherlands.
