About Nürburgring
The Nürburgring GP-Strecke ("Grand Prix course") is a 5.148 km, 15-corner motor racing circuit at the Nürburg in the Eifel mountains of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany — built on the site of the original Nürburgring start/finish straight and the old Südschleife after Niki Lauda's near-fatal 1976 crash forced Formula One off the legendary 20.832 km Nordschleife. Ground was broken on 30 November 1981 and the new circuit was completed in 1984, with the inaugural Formula One race — the European Grand Prix on 7 October 1984 — being the first F1 round at the Nürburgring since 1976. The track was designed to the highest 1980s safety standards: a clockwise FIA Grade One layout combining the tight Mercedes-Arena stadium section, fast flowing sweepers in the middle of the lap, and long straights with substantial Eifel elevation changes that hint at the Nordschleife's natural-terrain character. Famous corners include the Mercedes Arena (Turns 5–7), the NGK Schikane, the Veedol-Schikane, the Bit-Kurve and the long flat-right Castrol-S. The GP-Strecke has hosted the F1 European Grand Prix, German Grand Prix and Luxembourg Grand Prix, the DTM, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring (which combines the GP-Strecke and the Nordschleife into a 24.4 km super-circuit) and the FIM EWC 8 Hours of Nürburgring.
