About Circuito del Levante

Autodromo del Levante is a 1.577 km, 9-corner (6 right / 3 left) motor racing circuit in Binetto, around 20 km west of Bari in Apulia, southern Italy. The project — initiated by Nicola Favia, owner of a nearby motocross facility at Grumo Appula — was approved by Italian motorsport authorities CSAI and FMI in July 1979 but suffered a long bureaucratic delay, and the circuit was finally inaugurated on 10 June 1989. The Levante quickly became a development ground for future Italian motorcycle stars: the inaugural Trofeo Inverno (Winter Trophy) in 1989 was won by Max Biaggi, with subsequent winners including Loris Capirossi, Michele Pirro and Valentino Rossi. The circuit hosts the Italian Formula Three, Italian Superturismo, Italian GT and Italian motorcycle CIV championships, and is the busiest trackday venue in southern Italy.
