About Dekra Lausitzring

Dekra Lausitzring (originally the EuroSpeedway Lausitz) is a multi-configuration motorsport complex at Klettwitz in the Lusatia region of eastern Germany, around 130 km south of Berlin. The site uniquely combines a 3.256 km high-speed tri-oval (similar in shape to Pocono Raceway in the USA — unique in continental Europe) with a separate 4.562 km road racing circuit; over a dozen different configurations are possible by combining segments. The facility was officially opened on 20 August 2000 and was renamed EuroSpeedway Lausitz for international communication purposes between 2000 and 2010. The tri-oval hosted the CART German 500 in 2001 and 2003 — the first CART race in Europe — and was the scene of Alex Zanardi's catastrophic 15 September 2001 accident, in which the Italian two-time CART champion lost both legs after his car was sliced in two at full speed. On 1 November 2017 the German vehicle inspection and certification group DEKRA acquired the Lausitzring as its principal test site for automated and autonomous driving, while continuing to host motorsport events. The circuit hosts the DTM, FIM World Endurance Championship 8 Hours of Lausitz, the IDM Superbike Championship and is a busy trackday venue for the eastern German scene. Named layout features include the Sachsenkurve, the Mercedesbogen, the Audi-Bogen banked oval section, and the high-speed flat-out S6/S7 oval banking that connects the road course to the oval.
