About Circuit de Calafat
Circuit de Calafat is a 3.250 km, 16-turn (9 right / 7 left) motor racing circuit at Calafat in the municipality of l'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona, Catalonia — the first permanent racing circuit ever built in Catalonia. Designed by engineers Jordi Xiol and Vicente Gilera with the backing of the Generalitat and Tarragona regional government, the original 2,500 m layout was inaugurated on 29 September 1974 with a Formula Seat 1800 single-seater race. The circuit was expanded in 1987 to its current 3,250 m length featuring a 600 m back straight. Calafat remains a popular fixture of the Catalan club racing and trackday scene.
