About Bikernieki Circuit
Biķernieki Sports Complex is a 3.662 km motor racing circuit in the Biķernieki Forest on the outskirts of Riga, Latvia — the largest race-track complex of its kind in the Baltic States. The idea of a permanent circuit was first proposed in the 1950s, and detailed design work began in 1962 under chief engineer Pēteris Dzenis with the backing of the Ministry of Road Transport of the Latvian SSR. Asphalt was laid on the "Ring of Skill" (Meistarības Aplis) from autumn 1965, and the first official competitions — for both cars and motorcycles — were held on 30–31 July 1966. The complex actually contains two distinct layouts: the Ring of Skill (originally designed for motorcycle racing) and the Speed Ring (Ātruma Aplis, designed for cars), sharing pit and paddock facilities. Biķernieki has hosted the FIA World Rallycross Championship round at Riga and remains the premier motorsport venue in Latvia.
