Circuitfun Circuit de Mettet

Motorcycle racing in Mettet dates to the early 1920s on a public-streets layout in the town, and the first Grand Prix Entre Sambre et Meuse was held in 1928 (won by Belgian rider Albert Breslau on an AJS). After World War II, local motorcycle racer Jules Tacheny was appointed president of the Royal Motor Union de l'Entre Sambre et Meuse and won the Senior category of the first post-war Grand Prix in 1946. The circuit is named in his memory. The modern permanent circuit was finalised in 2010 immediately adjacent to the old street circuit. The 10 corners bear the names of famous motorcycle riders who have raced at Mettet over the decades — including Surtees, Jack Findlay, Giacomo Agostini, Didier de Radiguès, Eddy Paquay, Jean-Pierre Mertens and Patrick Chambon. Mettet hosts the celebrated Superbiker Mettet (an annual cross-discipline motorcycle event combining road racing, motocross and supermoto), the Belgian national motorcycle championship and the Belgian round of the European Promosport series. It is by far the busiest motorcycle trackday venue in Wallonia.
