Construction began in winter 1964 and the circuit was completed by April 1965, aided by sandy soil that helped drain rainfall away from the new asphalt. The Bugatti Circuit shares its pit complex, start straight, the iconic Dunlop Bridge section and the final Ford chicane with the full 24-hour Le Mans circuit, before diverting into a tight infield section of purpose-built corners through Garage Vert, S du Garage Bleu and Raccordement. Although it hosted only a single Formula One race (the 1967 French Grand Prix, won by Jack Brabham), the Bugatti Circuit has been the permanent home of the French motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) since 2000, after the race moved from Paul Ricard. Le Mans has also been the home of the FIM Endurance World Championship 24 Heures Motos for decades — held annually on the Bugatti Circuit since 1978 — and remains one of the four EWC classic events.
