The venue opened in 1992 and has retained the same layout in the more than three decades since, making it one of the most enduring purpose-built circuits of its era in Spain. The 10–12 m wide ribbon features a 610 m main straight before the heavy braking zone of Turn 1, and the technical mix of slow hairpins and high-speed kinks has earned it a strong reputation in European trackday circles. Cartagena's mild Mediterranean climate (winter temperatures rarely below 12°C, virtually no rain between October and March) has made it one of the busiest winter testing destinations in Europe for motorcycle teams and trackday operators. The circuit hosts rounds of the Spanish national motorcycle championships, the Spanish ESBK series and is the home circuit for the Murcia regional Spanish Championship.
